Grant McLeod

We are sad to report that Grant McLeod (94C) passed away on the 8th February 2023.

Grant’s operational flying career started in 1970 with tours on Canberras with 98 Sqn and 360 Sqn (RN/RAF). Squadron. Flying Hunters at Chivenor and then with 45 Sqn (Wittering) led to Strike/Attack tours on the Phantom GR2 at Coningsby and Brüggen (17 Sqn).


In 1976 he converted to the Jaguar GR1 at Lossiemouth returning to Brüggen on 31 Sqn before, as OC 63 Sqn, he flew the Hunter and Hawk at the TWU (Brawdy).

In 1980-82 he held Staff Duties at HQ 38 Group, Upavon before graduating from the Army Staff College, Camberley.

He returned to Brüggen again as a Wing Commander and OC 17(F) Sqn (Tornado GR1) before a Staff tour in MOD where he retired.


In 1988-92, he flew the Chipmunk as a Flying Officer RAFVR (T) with 5 AEF Cambridge. During this time, he started a second career with KLM (UK) Airlines that flew the Fokker 50 and 100 as well its low-cost subsidiary Buzz which operated the BAe146 and Boeing 737.


Grant retired from aviation in 2006.
