Wg Cdr David Kuun

It is with sadness that we must report that Wg Cdr David Rex Kuun died peacefully at home on December 18th aged 84.

Originally from South Africa, Dave Kuun entered the RAF College in Sep 1955 and was a member of 73 Entry, 'C' Sqn and achieved the rank of Senior Flight Cadet.
He represented the college at Rugby where a quote from the Chimay Cup Rugby Report College Journal, March 1958 states “...Kuun, whose presence, if not always his play, can be terrifying !”.
His flying career included Hunters (92 Sqn) and the Lightning (also 92 Sqn then Flight Commander on 29 Squadron in 1970). He was promoted to Wg Cdr on the 1st January 1974 and was OC 5(F) Sqn at Binbrook (1976). He retired on the 14th December 1992.
The photograph shows Dave (Detachment Commander) with his crew at the Danish base Aarlborg. The Aalborg detachment was memorable because, running a little light on fuel, the Lightning fourship found the runway blocked and, with no close diversion, the formation was instructed to land on the taxiway!
