Geoff Ware
We are sad to announce that Gp Capt Geoff Ware passed away on the 5th January 2023.
Geoff’s main association with Cranwell was as Assistant Commandant from February 2003 to September 2005. After retiring he became College Secretary before working for the RAF Benevolent Fund.
Before joining the RAF, Geoff was a Police Officer in his hometown of Bury, Lancashire. His first posting was as OC Accounts at RAF Catterick in 1974 followed by a tour as OC P1 at RAF Laarbruch. At Laarbruch he would volunteer to do the initial recovery following any fatal accidents as, hardened by similar experiences in the Police, he wanted to spare less experienced personnel of the trauma. Following Instructor Admin Sec Courses at Cranwell and Hereford, he served as OC GD Flt at Coningsby then OC PSF at Finningley. After promotion to Sqn Ldr in Feb 1984 he returned to Catterick as OC SSS. This was followed by a tour as a Desk Officer at RAF Innsworth before returning to Germany as CMLO/P2 Ground at JHQ Rheindahlen.
Promoted to Wing Commander, he served as OC Admin Wing at Wittering, SPSP at Brampton before being part of the Tri Service Amalgamation of Supply Branches at MOD and Bath.
He was promoted to Group Captain 1998 serving as a Desk Officer at PMS Innsworth before his roles at Cranwell.
